Online Education as a Catalyst for Reforming Higher Education

In the past, much of the education research was focused on inspecting the classrooms as a context for learning and explaining the learning processes occurring in the classroom that helps students. Today we have seen several ongoing research processes to study the factors affecting and enhancing the learning capability of the students. Despite this progress, the Online Learning Policy has been highlighted as a need for further action in several important areas. 

Nowadays as per the current scenario, online learning is emerging as the primary source to fulfill all the educational needs. In the past few years, the role of higher education in addressing wide social and economic challenges, such as inequality and poverty, remained a highlight of public discussions. Developing an integrated research agenda, which was found helpful in facilitating collaboration across various research fields and will allow us to focus more attention on how higher education may respond to various societal challenges. 

In the end, it was concluded that Online education can provide a large variety of unique and significant affordances. These affordances allow learners, customized learning, remote collaboration, flexible hours, and blended learning. In addition to that, various online learning management systems are launched to provide support to teachers and the rest of the management, by providing a well-stable platform for the teachers and students to interact with each other. Today, there are nearly infinite such digital technologies that can play a significant role as an education provider by providing a dynamic digital scaffold.

Dynamic digital scaffolding is already adding value to online learning. Many online learning platforms are providing spaced learning which focuses on applying that learning to challenging problems. However, it is also true that technology should or may replace teachers in the future, but it is also a fact that teachers are essential in the learning process to support students that can’t be expected by the machine or programs. By providing context and mentoring and feedback and discussions, a teacher becomes an essential part of the life of a learner, which can’t be replaced by any kind of program. Now, it is recommended that online learning should instead be used in such a way that it allows few key benefits to teachers also by saving their time and thus helping them focus on high-value personal interactions with students. This type of approach we described above aligns with the principles of blended learning. In blended learning, both technology and the teacher corporate across the online platforms and in-person spaces.

By using blended learning, one can enhance learning across different platforms provided that it should be applied to different strengths of online and face-to-face learning. 

Now on discussing various organizational approaches that have been applied to boost this transformation in different other sectors and their application in higher education. To enhance online learning in higher education, these four recommendations must be considered:

Institutional leaders

They can foster the change by embracing new online learning processes, in their institutes or their community. By implementing an online learning management system for their community, which in turn will serve as a platform on which teachers can interact with their students and can manage their institute as well.

Legislators and Government officials

These officials can act as support for this educational innovation by providing a strong budget and clear, forward-looking regulatory budgets. They can also help in creating collaborative efforts to translate research into practice.

Education companies

These companies can contribute experience in many areas and are capable of accelerating the adoption of online learning. 

Associations and foundations

A well-organized group of foundations and associations can provide good support and can also represent a large network of stakeholders, in limited resources for direct participation.    

However, researchers claimed, neither online learning nor the traditional education system alone can help students today. But Blended learning is the only way that will allow both education systems to perform at their peak.
